Project Lever Gun

This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. My rifle, without me, is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will…

My rifle and myself know that what counts in this war is not the rounds we fire, the noise of our burst, nor the smoke we make. We know that it is the hits that count. We will hit…

My rifle is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its sights and its barrel. I will ever guard it against the ravages of weather and damage as I will ever guard my legs, my arms, my eyes and my heart against damage. I will keep my rifle clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will…

Before God, I swear this creed. My rifle and myself are the defenders of my country. We are the masters of our enemy. We are the saviors of my life. So be it, until victory is America’s and there is no enemy, but peace!

This is the Rifleman’s Creed, it will be instantly familiar to members of the USMC… or to those who have watched Full Metal Jacket.

That should cover anyone reading my blog.

The above picture is “My Rifle”.

Marlin 1895 STP.

It is an antiquated design chambered in an even older cartridge.

However it is rendered in more modern stainless steel and laminated wood.

This rifle has become my constant companion, whenever possible it is within reach.

Every now and then a person can feel a connection with an inanimate object.

This is one I have connected with.

It is a tool, a companion, a friend.

I have decided to make it as good as it can be, for my use.

What use is that? Whatever use I decide.

Defense, hunting, plinking… anything and everything I decide to use it for.

I have installed a larger loop lever so I can use it properly while wearing gloves.

I have also installed an XS Sight Systems Lever Rail, this gives me a rear ghost ring for fast sight picture and a long sight radius on the short barreled rifle.

I chose the STP for its 16.25″ barrel, this makes it handy in tight confines and when in dense brush while hunting.

I also keep it lubed up with SlipStream Weapons Lubricant.

This is some amazing stuff and I recommend it to everyone out there.

I will be updating my build on here for those interested.
